Kaufland, like Lidl, belongs to the German Schwarz-Gruppe, which is the largest retailer in Europe. In the Czech Republic, Kaufland had sales of CZK 58.95 billion for the 2019-2020 financial year, placing it just behind Lidl in the No. 2 spot in the ranking of the largest retailers compiled by the magazine Zboží a prodej. Moreover, with approximately 11,000 employees, the company is one of the largest domestic employers. In November 2022, Kaufland had 139 stores in the Czech Republic.
